A Brief History
I started out working in a few recording studios around Columbus, Ohio back in the late 90’s. When I got sick of recording people’s karaoke projects, I turned my focus toward video post-production. I worked for a few years at a commercial house, but when you’re 18, a serious job just doesn’t appeal to you. After a few years in video, I moved to Florida and went to college. While down there I started working at an audio repair shop, and since then haven’t put the soldering iron down. I moved to Portland, OR in late 2003 and since then have been running my own repair business. In mid 2006, after great demand for a mic preamp based on a unit I built in my basement, I started Soursound as an outlet for all these ideas that would come to me when fixing equipment. In the end, that’s what this company is… it’s what I’m doing, wherever I’m doing it, and whatever I’m doing. The basic idea being to build some gear, keep the designs simple and keep the build quality as good as the sound quality. People should expect to get a good product with their money, and not be let down by that product.
The company right now is mainly a split between custom equipment production and equipment repair. The music scene in Portland has been very gracious to me over the years, and I continue to serve them with all the dilligence I can muster. At this point I’m curious to see where things go over the next couple years…
